Job Summary

We are looking for a Technical Program Manager with hands-on experience in managing large-scale, cross-functional programs specifically in the Shopify ecosystem. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing the end-to-end execution of technical programs, working closely with engineering teams, product managers, and cross-functional stakeholders to ensure successful delivery of Shopify-based projects. This role will require a deep understanding of e-commerce platforms, system integrations, and agile methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Program Management: Lead and manage multiple technical programs from inception to completion, ensuring timelines, scope, and budgets are met within a Shopify-based environment.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with engineering, product, UX/UI, analytics and business teams to define requirements, prioritize features, and solve complex technical problems within the Shopify platform.

  • Stakeholder Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact for both internal and external stakeholders, providing regular status updates and ensuring alignment with business goals.

  • Agile Process Management: Facilitate agile ceremonies (stand-ups, sprint planning, retrospectives) to ensure smooth program execution. Drive continuous improvement in processes and communication.

  • Risk Management: Proactively identify and mitigate risks that could impact program delivery. Provide risk assessments and manage mitigation strategies for technical and business challenges. Be the champion for compliance and ensure IT General controls are applied consistently.

  • Technical Understanding: Leverage your Shopify knowledge to understand and manage technical dependencies, API integrations, custom themes, third-party applications, and custom solutions.

  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain detailed program documentation, including roadmaps, timelines, and status reports. Report on KPIs and program success metrics to senior leadership.

  • Shopify Expertise: Stay current with Shopify's latest features, APIs, and platform updates. Apply this knowledge to improve project strategies and outcomes.

Education & Experience Recommended

  • Experience: 10+ years of experience in technical program management, with at least 2 years of direct experience working with the Shopify platform (e-commerce, Shopify Plus, Shopify API, integrations, themes, etc.).

  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of Shopify’s architecture, custom app development, theme customization, APIs, and integrations with third-party services.

  • Project Management Tools: Proficiency in project management tools like Jira, Confluence, Trello, or similar.

  • Agile Methodology: Strong experience working in agile methodologies, Scrum, or Kanban.

  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Problem Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a track record of delivering complex projects in fast-paced environments.

  • Leadership: Ability to lead and motivate teams, influence stakeholders, and make critical decisions to drive project success.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience with Shopify Plus or large-scale e-commerce platforms.

  • Certification in Project Management (e.g., PMP, Agile/Scrum certification).

  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, cloud infrastructure, or DevOps processes.

The base pay range for this role is $146,650 to $225,850 annually with additional opportunities for pay in the form of bonus and/or equity (applies to US candidates only).  Pay varies by work location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
