Job Summary

Senior Tax Accounting role overseeing and reviewing all tax return preparation and provision work for the US and Americas . Ensure all US tax returns and IFRS tax reporting are completed timely and accurately. Support Head of Tax and Senior Tax Management with tax modelling scenarios and forecasting.  

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for US tax compliance and tax reporting for US branch and US group subsidiaries. Ensure that all income tax returns (federal and state) and indirect tax returns (e.g. sales tax) are completed and timely filed. This includes oversight/review of tax workpapers to support tax return positions and special US branch tax allocations (e.g. NECI, 882-5 interest expense, head office allocations), and workpapers relating to the US subsidiaries (1120 and 1120-F). Liaison with outside accounting firms on all compliance matters.
  • Ensure Group tax reporting process for US branch and US subsidiaries are accurately and timely filed.
  • Calculation/review of deferred tax asset schedules and monthly/quarterly/annual provision for the Group.
  • Assist in managing the effective tax rate for US branch and US subsidiaries and monitoring federal/state and local taxes to minimize tax.
  • Manage or assist with examinations by tax authorities (federal/state/local) in an effective manner to minimize propose adjustments. Assist Head of Tax with development and management of US Tax Team Tax CoE members with respect to US branch and US group subsidiary tax support. Drive tax projects on an ad hoc basis as neede
  • Effectively communicate tax-related information and updates to internal and external stakeholders, ensuring clarity and transparency.
  • Collaborate with the global tax team to align tax strategies and ensure consistency in tax reporting, forecasting and compliance.
  • Work closely with other departments, including finance, operations and businesses to ensure comprehensive and cohesive tax planning and compliance.
  • Ensure tax compliance and tax reporting for US branches and US group subsidiaries are in accordance with Standard Chartered tax policy and procedures.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the tax function, leveraging technology and best practices.
  • Analyse financial data and tax information to identify trends, risks, and opportunities, and to support tax planning and compliance activities.
  • Conduct thorough tax research on complex tax issues, staying informed about new developments and best practices in US and international tax law.

Skills

  • Ability to communicate complex tax issues to key stakeholders in a manner that is clear and understandable both orally and in writing;
  • Skilled at working with tax revenue authorities during the audit process;
  • Experience in managing and working with a diverse group of tax professionals globally; solid people skills;
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills;
  • Ability to perform tax research on issues using online tools (BNA, CCH, etc.) and consult with tax advisory team member when needed;
  • Advanced knowledge of tax compliance software tools (e.g., OneSource);
  • Expertise with Excel and other office programs and good technology skills;
  • Work effectively with outside advisors, manage relationships and use resources judiciously and effectively;
  • Work well under pressure, meet tight deadlines where necessary and work on own initiative and balance several tasks;
  • Ability to think “outside-the-box” and be a nimble proactive team player.

Qualifications

  • Licensed as a CPA or an attorney with tax accounting experience;
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience with international taxation of non-US and US financial institutions (preferably in-bound taxation and US group taxation);
  • Serve a senior role for the Head of Tax providing oversight on all US tax accounting/compliance/reporting issues for the US and Americas;

Expected annual base pay range for the role is 175,000 USD to 225,000 USD. The final offer will be determined on an individualised basis using a number of variables, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience and education, internal relativity, and specific work location. At Standard Chartered Bank, Base pay is only part of the total compensation package.
