This exciting opportunity Inland Marine Program Leader - NA opportunity can be based in one of our field offices: Alpharetta, Chicago, New York or O'Fallon (MO).

We are looking for the Inland Marine Program Leader – NA to lead a Program Practice Group (PPG) with representatives from each zone to help source and on-board additional inland marine programs and be the lead representative at Program conferences meeting with brokers, intermediaries and program managers.  

  • In addition would orchestrate corporate governance requirements as respects MGAs at AGCS. 

  • Promulgate NA Marine program strategy, including Broker Sales Planning, Broker Engagement Model, pipeline development and management, business analysis, remuneration, and governance while working directly with other business partners, specifically NA Inland Marine Underwriters and Distribution.  

  • Will lead a team to oversee and manage the growth and profitability of the existing portfolio along with adding new facilities to the book.

Some of your specific responsibilities could include:   

  • Managing Team of Underwriters.

  • Delegate tasks to team in order to achieve overall results. 

  • Manage/supervise team client accounts and act as point of referral and/or escalation for issues. 

  • Manage cost center budget within plan. 

  • Underwriting Strategy and Leadership 

  • Contribute to development and execution of regional Underwriting strategy for LoB. 

  • Manage referrals from underwriters and spokes and re-underwrite complex business as appropriate. 

  • Develop and cultivate a Programs Practice Group with representatives from each zone in North America. 

  • Lead efforts to source new program opportunities. 

  • Manage corporate governance requirements for MGA inland marine contracts. 

  • Serve as department point person for any future program infrastructure enhancement (i.e. ingesting bordereau’s). 

  • Product Development. 

  • Research information on competitive trends, product line trends, producer trends and external environment, including legal, economic, demographic and distribution trends. 

  • Recommend new and revised products and programs, underwriting standards and procedures, and provide guidance on pricing within the regions. 

  • Monitor product result and develops proposals to maximize profitability, including the review of claims/large losses/trends. 

  • Underwriting Approach and Compliance. 

  • Underwrite in line with LoB governance framework - e.g., Underwriting Authorities, global MSU, Underwriting Guidelines, Rules and Principles. 

  • Ensure contract certainty is achieved on all accounts at time of inception. 

  • Ensure utilization of global pricing tools. 

  • Ensure placing and binding of FAC Reinsurance prior to policy inception. 

  • Program Management. 

  • Act as a Key Resource within Inland Marine for all program activities.    

  • Research develop and implement programs for NA Inland Marine in coordination with zones and represent organization with external and internal business partners. 

  • Relationship Management. 

  • Positively represent AGCS externally to the market. 

  • Proactively drive involvement of functional areas in Underwriting process, including e.g., MMC, ARC, Claims, Operations. 

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key brokers and clients and other relevant stakeholders (e.g., risk managers). 

What You’ll Bring to the Role  

We'd like to find someone with a minimum 11 years’ proven track record in Inland Marine Underwriting management.   Experience of leading and of remotely managing and developing regional teams across numerous locations, including direct reports and complex matrix environments.  Experience of leading change in various business scenarios, including restructuring, integration and mature growth markets.   In addition, you will bring: 

  • Master’s Degree.

  • Completion of professional insurance qualification (e.g., CII). 

  • Minimum of 11 years of significant experience in Underwriting profitable business in LoB, with an expert level understanding of LoB products and portfolio. 

  • Managing people: Ability to lead and manage a team of underwriters. Includes the ability to delegate tasks, steer team direction/goals, etc. 

  • Well recognized established relationships with brokers at peer group level and well established within market. 

  • Expert understanding of regional / local LoB insurance markets and competitor landscape. 

  • Expert understanding of legal and regulatory framework. 

  • Risk Assessment and Management: Ability to assess risk inherent exposures and natural hazards relevant to LoB. 

  • Pricing and Market mgt: Analyze current performance against benchmarks applying how the market operates and functions, the business needs and customer needs. 

  • Contract Drafting and Interpretation: Design, develop and implement consistent, robust wordings. 

  • Policy Management: Robust understanding of policy administration life cycle, information collection, policy issuance, premium bookings, credit control, cancellation. 

  • Communication & Presentation: Ability to express ideas and messages clearly, both written and verbally.  Ability to "sell" an improvised or prepared audience winning story. 

  • Influencing skills: Ability to persuade and motivate others to act, without executive authority. 

  • Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze highly complex data, from multiple sources, in detail; identify and resolve issues before they transpire. 

The annualized pay range for this role is $136,752 - $270,400. The annual base salary range represents a nationwide market range. The actual salary for this position may be above and will be determined by several factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role, the skills, education, training, credentials, and experience of the candidate. The base pay is just one component of the AzC total compensation package. As part of our comprehensive compensation and highly rated benefits programs, employees are also eligible for annual performance-based cash incentive awards.
