What you do:

Do you want to drive change by leading an accounting policy and project team in a large multinational insurance company?  You will manage a small team of people conducting project management and accounting policy functions for new investment strategies, business combinations, and other company initiatives.  These functions include responsibility for monitoring new accounting guidance, coordination with external auditors and Group accounting policy, supporting accounting and investment operations accounting issues, researching technical accounting guidance and coaching team members in performing these responsibilities.  You’ll have the opportunity to work in a fast-paced setting, while learning about a variety of topics, innovating new ideas, developing relationships with colleagues on other teams and overseas, and presenting project status to senior and executive leadership of the Company.  You will report to the Accounting Policy Director.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure timely execution of projects and coordinate completion of documentation of those projects with cross-functional teams
  • Concisely communicate status and other information about responsibilities to Director, work team, project sponsors, and Company leadership
  • Review or perform accounting research, accounting interpretations, and communicate results of that work
  • Participate in trade groups, monitor status of proposed accounting guidance and support Group Accounting Policy in lobbying Company’s views on proposed new accounting standards
  • Build effective working relationships with colleagues in work team, project teams, and other business areas, as needed
  • Coordinate with internal and external customers to produce clear, consistent, effective written and verbal communication
  • Proactively manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Direct and coach team members in performing their responsibilities

  • Works to motivate employees at the team level by helping to manage performance through coaching. Day-to-day management of all team members. Helps to influence team member career development.

Accounting Policy and Projects 

  • Advanced skills at interpreting regulations and accounting guidelines, especially in financial instruments, derivatives and hedge accounting, investment fund accounting, and business combinations.
  • Clear understanding of current progress on research projects and implementation projects
  • Research and implement new IFRS, US GAAP and Statutory Accounting & Financial Reporting standards
  • Effectively manage and drive several competing non-routine transactions and financial projects across all areas of the Company, which may include AIM, PIMCO, external asset managers, Investment Accounting, etc.
  • Provides critical leadership within project teams to facilitate understanding between multiple business areas and recognize upstream/downstream impacts of decisions, deliverables and results
  • Presents project information to members of senior and executive leadership
  • Support business partners and the Department on day-to-day accounting related issues
  • Produce or coordinate reports related to projects, new standards and regulatory or auditor requests
  • Support Controller’s Department training agenda with appropriate technical training

Internal Control Environment

  • Excellent understanding of the importance of internal controls to a top-tier financial team with meticulous adherence to the controls in place
  • Excellent understanding of internal controls in place relevant to self and team including overall process documentation and testing as well as performing the control
  • Recommends improvements to controls or need for future controls
  • Strong understanding of interrelationship of controls with other areas

What you bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
  • 4-5 years of relevant accounting work experience, including public accounting
  • Strong written/verbal communication skills. Must be able to comfortably present to senior and executive leadership.
  • Knowledge of technical accounting for insurance products and features and reinsurance transactions
  • Solid understanding of IFRS and US GAAP accounting concepts and guidance
  • Strong project management and problem-solving skills
  • Must have basic to high proficiency with AI and/or business intelligence
  • Ability to effectively resolve conflicts
  • Strong desire to learn new things
  • Experience in leading a high performing team
  • You must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. and will not require immigration sponsorship for visa status now or in the future (e.g. H1-B, L-1, TN, etc.). If you are currently on CPT/OPT, you are ineligible due to the need for future immigration sponsorship

Base Salary Range $78,000 - $156,000

Actual base salary may vary based upon factors such as relevant experience, qualifications, internal equity of peers, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for an annual incentive program.
