Job Description:

The Technical Accounting Supervisor is responsible for researching and documenting compliance with accounting standards and providing guidance on complex accounting issues. This role involves the implementation of new accounting standards and supporting financial reporting processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Performs research for technical accounting issues to ensure SEC and other statutory filings comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), SEC disclosure requirements and other applicable guidance.
  • Prepares documentation on accounting treatment for complex technical issues and coordinates with external auditors on these issues during their audit.
  • Provides updates to management on new and proposed accounting guidance, and the potential impact on the company.
  • Ensures compliance with US GAAP and other relevant accounting standards and regulations.
  • Provides input into external financial communications and verifies information for accuracy
  • Prepares updates to the company’s internal accounting policies and procedures to ensure that accounting personnel have access to current UPS policies.
  • Coordinates with external auditors to ensure accuracy and completeness of accounting research topics and related disclosures.

  • Evaluates compliance to GAAP methods; applies accounting knowledge to complex or unusual contexts; establishes company accounting controls and procedures; anticipates and addresses the impact of new accounting practices.
  • Designs and evaluates complex research to address the immediate business problem and related problems; identifies cause/effect relationships; interprets findings and their implications to the business.
  • Resolves complex problems; advises others in minimizing company risk; adapts organizational procedures or processes to meet new or changed regulations; provides expertise in accounting compliance issues; identifies compliance policies and procedures for new business situations.
  • Writes complex technical documents; advises others in improving technical writing skills; identifies emerging issues in the field of technical writing in specialized area of expertise.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree - Accounting Required
  • Master’s degree - Accounting Preferred
  • Certification - Certified Public Accountant Track
