Join the Merchant AI Assistant team at Grab, where we're transforming merchant interactions through advanced conversational AI. We focus on integrating artificial intelligence, natural language processing, and merchant insights, enabling business owners to access personalized advice, streamline operations, optimize offerings, and gain valuable business insights via chat interfaces on mexApp. Our work aims to democratize powerful business tools for merchants across Southeast Asia, ensuring they have the support of a knowledgeable business consultant at their fingertips.

Get to Know the Role 

We are seeking skilled Engineers to join our dynamic Merchant AI Assistant team in Singapore. As pivotal contributors, you will design, build, and maintain AI solutions that support merchants throughout the Grab ecosystem. Reporting to the Engineering Manager II, you will play a crucial role in enhancing our AI's effectiveness and efficiency.

The Critical Tasks You Will Perform

You will:

• Design and implement robust backend systems using Large Language Models (LLMs) like GPT and Claude to facilitate merchant interactions.
• Use data analysis to refine and improve AI assistant performance based on conversation patterns, feedback, and metrics.
• Collaborate with engineers to develop scalable architectures, participating in code reviews to ensure quality.
• Advance service capacity planning, software performance analysis, and optimization efforts.
• Integrate AI components into broader system architectures in partnership with data scientists and engineers.
• Debug and resolve production issues during on-call shifts, offering technical guidance and mentoring peers.
• Work with product and design teams to define and prototype features, ensuring site reliability.

Qualifications

What Essential Skills You Will Need

To excel in this role, you should have:

• Proven software engineering and coding expertise, with at least 5 years of experience in backend languages such as Go, Scala, Java, or C++.
• Over two years of experience applying AI to develop technological solutions.
• Experience with cloud services like AWS or Azure, which will be essential for deployment and management.
• A strong grasp of database concepts including modeling and normalization—familiarity with relational databases like MySQL is critical.
• Proficiency with containerization through Docker and Kubernetes, important for deploying scalable applications.
• Skills in building microservices architectures and understanding distributed systems, REST APIs, and message queuing systems to enhance backend services.
• Knowledge of software development best practices: version control (e.g., Git), unit testing, and CI/CD pipelines.
