What’s the role
Shell Trading integrates a worldwide trading network with an unsurpassed global portfolio in Crude Oil, Refined Oil Products, LNG, Gas, Power & Environmental Products with larger locations in London, Houston, Calgary, Singapore, Dubai, Rotterdam, and Bahamas. The Contracts Operations team is responsible for managing the entire contracts process, including the provision of pre-deal and post deal commercial advice, contract drafting, internal authorization and dispatch of contracts/contract responses, records management, and value-driven commercial advice to the business when negotiating complex contractual arrangements.
The Contracts Coordinator will report to the Contracts Lead [Energy] and is responsible for activities related to the coordination and maintenance of standard commodity agreements and transaction confirmations, as well as managing contracts databases and maintaining accurate contract information in trading systems. Commodities and products include Gas, Power, and Derivatives.
What you’ll be doing
Your accountabilities include the following:
Operate the entire deal confirmations process, including assessing deal entry and handling non-standard confirmations, and associated queries.
Acts as an interface with Commercial, Trading, Credit, Legal, Contracts Advisors and other functions to ensure timely completion of pending contracts and confirmations.
Have an understanding of commodity transactions and the ability to identify discrepancies in deal entry and/or transaction confirmations.
Possess an understanding of contractual risk principles, ensuring that any deviation from Shell policy is identified and appropriately mitigated.
Handle contract and confirmation queries from third parties, seeking advice from other Contracts Coordinators or Contracts Advisors when required. Negotiate inclusion of Shell required terms and exclusion of non-compliant terms.
Proactively identify efficiency and improvement opportunities to better streamline team processes and work
Develop a knowledge of Shell’s standard clauses, and an understanding of the risks associated with modifications to Shell’s standard, as well as a sound broader understanding of oil operations and industry.
What you bring
Experience and Qualifications required:
Bachelor’s Degree graduate with minimum 1 year of professional work experience.
Ability to identify risk when deviating from standard contract clauses and confirmations.
Ability to apply knowledge of trading documentation/legal framework and work to resolve problems in contracts and confirmations in collaboration with others.
Proven ability and experience working in a fast-paced team environment.
Ability to recommend modifications and improvements to processes and controls.
Prior experience in a commodity trading environment or the energy industry is a plus.
Previous exposure to contracts and/or transaction confirmations processes and records management is a plus.
