TF&L Natural Resource Finance

Role

Natural Resource Finance (NRF) is a growing business of the Deutsche Bank’s Corporate Bank’s Trade Finance & Lending division (TF&L). The team is a leading arranger of tailored financing products across the global commodity markets value chain for capex, M&A and working capital. NRF is a global business across EMEA, APAC, and Americas, with client facing sales hubs in Amsterdam, London, Singapore, and Sydney.

Goal

In this role, you will be responsible to originate, structure and maintain transactions with you specific structuring expertise in the commodities sector.

You will be based in Amsterdam as part of our NRF Sales & Structuring team, and will report to our NRF Amsterdam head. Apart from being responsible for NRF transactions, you might also be asked to co-operate with other Trade Finance and Lending teams on a wider range of transactions.

You will support the growth of the team’s Natural Resource portfolio in EMEA and the US, and co-operate in cross-regional transactions with other NRF and/or Trade Finance teams.

Key Responsibilities

Act as structuring and project finance expert for complex financing solutions with full scope of responsibility for the life cycle of a transactions:

  • Originate: Identify the appropriate financing solutions for clients in the commodity industry.

  • Structure: (i) Develop and offer structuring solutions to clients in line with product offering, and under consideration of financial and non-financial risk appetite of Deutsche Bank and its products.

  • Execute: (i), obtain internal  approvals and sign offs (ii) document the deal in term sheet, and later in appropriate loan documentation, together with internal and/or external legal advisors,

  • Co-ordinate: As technical expert, co-ordinate with involved stakeholders in line with NRF’s risk appetite in the product class, and share relevant information with other involved deal teams on a need to know basis.

  • Maintain / monitor: Monitor the performance of a portfolio of transactions throughout the lifetime of the facilities of the portfolio in charge.

  • Has excellent communication and presentation skills to negotiate internally & externally, often at high level and across different cultures/nationalities

  • Participates in the origination of new transactions, with internal approvals and with investors

  • Develops and implements structuring solutions and exposure strategies autonomously and in a deal team and presents them in a comprehensive manner to internal and external counterparties

  • Evaluates and monitors deal specific projects risks

  • Reviews independent reports and recommences a risk-based approach to reserve/production/costs profiles (used in bank case models)

  • Monitors natural resource asset performance and of (re-)development projects; regular reviews with operating management of clients, and other internal and external stakeholders

  • Summarises and documents evaluation results both for internal and external (for lead mandates) purposes

  • Co-operates pro-actively with clients, and with stakeholders predominantly with Coverage and Risk functions

  • Complies with Deutsche Bank’s policies and procedures, adheres to an open speak up culture, and respects regulatory and legal requirements including, but not limited to Market Abuse Regulations and Conflict of Interest Requirements.

  • Makes decisions guided by policies in standard and nonstandard situations

  • Interacts pro-actively with colleagues and/or customers and shares know how openly and in line with Deutsche Bank’s values and beliefs

  • Solves complex problems; takes a broad perspective to identify innovative solutions

  • Strong skills in analysing credit structures including financial models, forecasts and downside risks, counterparty risk, and non-financial risks.

  • Strong skills in drafting and analysing term sheets and other legal documentation – in co-operation with legal advisors - including security documents and legal opinions.

  • Has the ability to work independently as well as part of an international team, also across teams and regions, and in line with Deutsche Bank’s processes and procedures.

  • Knows the global commodity markets, including the specifics of emerging markets and is prepared to visit clients and their production sites in those markets (in line with Deutsche Bank’s travel guidelines).

  • Resilient and committed with the ability to deliver within tight deadlines and under pressure.

Education, knowledge and working experience (to be adjusted to level of seniority)

  • Minimum Bachelor, diploma or equivalent

  • Proficient excel modelling skills

  • Proficient in technical writing

  • Proficient in English
