Get to Know the Team

The Applied AI Team is dedicated to building top-tier solutions that use GPT to enhance automation and operational efficiency for software engineers within Grab. We aim to maximize the power of GPT to develop modern tools and frameworks that allow our software engineers to refine their workflows, automate repetitive tasks, and focus on high-value activities.

Get to Know the Role 

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will solve interesting problems by collaborating with other Engineers, UI Designers, and Data teams. Additionally, you will adopt software engineering best practices for larger teams, including code reviews, ample use of static analysis, feature-flagging, and semantic versioning of internal APIs.

This is an onsite role and our office is based in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia.

The Critical Tasks You Will Perform

• You will design and write with Go, Python language to improve the availability, scalability, latency, and efficiency of Grab's services.
• You will collaborate with the engineering team to explore and create new designs/architectures geared towards scale and performance.
• You will support the debugging and modification of complex, production software.
• You will be involved in code and design reviews to maintain our high development standards.
• You will participate in service capacity and demand planning, software performance analysis, tuning, and optimization.
• You will collaborate with the infrastructure team and Data Tech team in building and scaling backend services and performing root cause analysis investigations.

Qualifications

What Essential Skills You Will Need

• At least 4 years of experience as a software engineer writing production code.
• Computer Science fundamentals in algorithms and data structures
• Experience in at least one backend language like Go, Python, Scala, Java, C++, or others is required. You can be a good coder in any language but must be willing to work on Golang
• Proficiency in building microservices architecture and understanding of distributed systems, RESTful APIs, and message queuing systems.
• Experience with relational databases (e.g., MySQL).
• Knowledge of software development best practices, including version control (Git), unit testing, and CI/CD pipelines.
