JOB PURPOSE

The Vice President, Group Internal Audit (ESG) of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Audit will be responsible to drive and oversee environmental, social and corporate governance initiatives of Group Internal Audit (GIA). The incumbent will provide technical expertise on key issues related to environmental and social impact assessment and on sustainability risk, for Group Internal Audit to carry out its role as a third line of defense. Group Internal Audit will support the governing body and management of the AFFIN Group with objective assurance on the effectiveness of ESG risk management, including ESG reporting.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Incorporate ESG into the annual audit plans, increasing the audit focus on ESG risks and climate risk management within the Group.
  • Plan the overall approach and develop a pulse check on the design and effectiveness of internal controls around accounting, reporting, and communication of information on ESG strategies, commitment, and actions of the Group.
  • Review materiality or risk assessments on ESG impacts, ensuring that ongoing sustainability efforts and public commitments to sustainability goals are appropriately identified and reported.
  • Ensuring the effectiveness and efficiency of internal audit processes and procedures surrounding ESG risks.
  • Plan to reduce the internal audit practice’s environmental footprint by identifying and implementing sustainable practices. This includes initiatives such as energy efficiency, waste reduction and carbon emission reduction.
  • On an independent advisory capacity, work closely with the AFFIN Group management team in their design systems and processes, leveraging technology and data (e.g., Big Data skills) to support ESG integration and facilitate efficient management of sustainability-related information.
  • Similarly, on an independent capacity provide advisory in terms of competency building and change management, that drives ESG integration to align the Group with global practices and standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as Risk Management and Compliance to enhance ESG integration, promote a culture of sustainability within the Bank, and review compliance with relevant ESG regulations and standards.
  • Support the development and implementation of ESG training programs for the Bank’s employees to raise awareness and build capacity in line with global standards and reporting frameworks.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS & BEHAVIOUR

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum Degree Holder with at least 5 years’ experience in Finance, Accounting, Environmental Science, Sustainability or related field.
  • Solid understanding of ESG principles, standards & framework.
  • Familiarity with relevant regulatory requirements and guidelines related to ESG in banking sector.
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must have Sustainability Certification, OR currently pursuing

Skills and Knowledge:

  • A good understanding of both the strategic and operational issues relating to ESG.
  • Sharp analytical and strategic thinking skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Good business acumen.
