Job Description

Team Summary 

The Visa Consulting and Analytics (VCA) team provides analytics and consulting services to address client business problems leveraging market and internal data. VCA Managed Services is a suite of service offerings that together help drive the future growth of the VCA organization, enabling our clients to implement the recommendations derived through strategic advisory engagements. The team focuses on developing and improving clients’ business by collaborating with them closely including their data utilization. And in addition to building and automating interpretable and actionable predictive models, we assist clients in execution of models and evaluation of results. 

The team interacts with stakeholders and team members across multiple functions, and thus strong intuition for developing analytic models that can solve specific business concerns is essential. The role further entails innovating new analytics services as we scale out our activities. 

What a Data Science, Senior Manager does at Visa: 

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of data scientists, fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment that encourages innovation and continuous learning. Set clear team goals, oversee project execution, and manage team performance. 
  • Develop and implement strategic plans for the data science team, ensuring alignment with the company's objectives. Facilitate communication and collaboration between the data science team and other departments to ensure effective execution of data-driven initiatives. 
  • Hands-on managing and executing multiple medium to large complex analytic projects along with rest of the stakeholders in analytics & consulting teams 
  • Collaborating with the internal teams to fully understand business requirements and desired business outcomes, analyze and synthesize the business insights and recommendation  
  • Work closely across multiple team functions including wider VCA, Product, Sales, Regional and Global Marketing team to acquire specific subject matter expertise as needed 
  • Meeting with key clients to explain model results, answer questions and propose further analysis 
  • Establishing best practices for change management, model automation and production rollout 
  • Familiarity with batch processing and process monitoring for model refresh 
  • Collaborating closely with key clients to analyze clients’ data, extract insights, and create dashboards 
  • Taking the lead in discussing with clients’ data science, corporate planning, and marketing teams to identify opportunities 
  • Actively seek out opportunities to improve processes and technologies 
  • Defining detailed analytic scope and methodology, and creating an analytic plan 
  • Executing with appropriate statistical and machine learning techniques 
  • Providing thought leadership in both using data to solve business problems and arriving at innovative technology and statistical solutions 
  • Accountable in ensuring project delivery within timelines and budget requirements

This is a hybrid position. Expectation of days in office will be confirmed by your hiring manager.

Qualifications

What you will need:  

  • 10 years of analytical experience in applying statistical solutions to business problems  
  • Full professional fluency in Japanese and business level English proficiency
  • Graduate degree (Masters or Ph.D.) in computer science, or a quantitative field such as physics, statistics or mathematics, or equivalent experience 
  • Experience in leading and managing a data science team for 2 years or above, with strong abilities to inspire, mentor, and motivate team members while driving projects to successful completion. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to facilitate cross-functional collaboration are essential. 
  • Proficiency in processing large data sets using Hive and related tools 
  • Fluency in multiple technologies and languages (Java/C/C++/Python/R/SQL), with experience in at least one compiled language 
  • Experience with a wide cross section of machine learning techniques: clustering, dimensionality reduction, variable selection, cross validation, neural networks, gradient boosting, linear & logistic regression  
  • Unix/Linux proficiency: command line tools, shell scripting 
  • Experience in managing multiple members for at least 2 years 
  • Experience in collaborating with business functions at least internally or externally  
  • Experience in building and maintaining strong client relationships  
  • An independent individual, yet a reliable team player; Ability to work effectively in a team environment  

What will also help: 

  • Ability to quickly ideate novel mathematical models to address new problems 
  • Experience in cards/payments, retail banking, or retail merchant industries

  • LTV and forecasting algorithms
