Manulife Investment Management’s Private Equity and Credit group provides capital solutions ranging from senior and junior debt financing, equity co-investments, and fund commitments to private equity managers with proven track records. The Private Equity Asia team is based in Hong Kong and is focused on private equity investments across the Asia-Pacific region through fund commitments and equity co-investments.

Role Summary

The Investment Associate, Private Equity Asia will join an investment team that oversees a diversified and growing portfolio of fund commitments and equity co-investments across the Asia-Pacific region. The incumbent is responsible for supporting all aspects of the investment process, including evaluating investment opportunities, conducting due diligence, preparing investment recommendations, coordinating closing procedures, and managing and monitoring the investments during their hold periods.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Identify, evaluate, and conduct diligence on fund partners for possible investments across various geographies and strategies
  • Financial and industry due diligence to support the analysis and recommendation of prospective equity co-investments across various industry sectors and transaction types 
  • Assist in managing and monitoring existing investments and partner relationships
  • Responsible for completing periodic internal investment reviews and valuations on existing investments
  • Lead private equity-related analytical projects and initiatives, including country and industry reports

Desired Skills & Experience

  • 2-4 years of related work experience, ideally in private equity, investment banking, or transaction/valuation advisory services
  • Prior experience investing in private equity funds and/or co-investments desirable 
  • Proficiency in building and working on financial models and frameworks to analyze the financial dynamics of various investment opportunities 
  • Undergraduate degree required preferably with a specialization in finance 
  • MBA, CFA and/or CA designation will be considered an asset 
  • Strong English language verbal and written communications skills to effectively communicate with senior management 
  • Ability to work independently and with a minimum amount of supervision, demonstrating a high degree of initiative, judgement, and professionalism
  • Team player with demonstrated capability of working closely with team members and various internal and external parties
