Device Management Engineer specializing in System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) and software packaging, distribution, and vulnerability management Some key responsibilities and best practices for this position are:

Security Update Compliance:

• Patch Deployment: The engineer deploys security updates to secure managed PCs. They balance security and end-user experience by using silent patching processes during the first seven days after an update release.
• Configuration Manager Version: Staying current with the latest Configuration Manager version ensures access to update management technologies (such as Express support) and quality improvements1.

Software Packaging and Distribution:

• Automated Deployment: The engineer automates software update deployment to reduce manual effort and minimize errors.
• Monthly Update Groups: Creating new software update groups each month prevents deployments from exceeding the limit of software updates per deployment.
• Static Update Groups: Storing updates from previous years in static software update groups eases management and reduces server and client load.

Vulnerability Management:

• Vulnerability Scanning: The engineer uses tools like Vulnerability Manager Plus to scan and discover vulnerabilities in local and remote endpoints and roaming devices.
• Prioritization: After assessing vulnerabilities, they prioritize remediation efforts based on risk and impact2.
