Job Description:

Job Summary

The UPS Sustainability Team is responsible for developing the strategy of and executing initiatives to enable the decarbonization of UPS’ global operations. The team works cross-functionally to design and execute greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction solutions across all business units and modes of transportation, as well as to design customer-facing sustainable logistic products. We leverage the power of data to manage and measure the progress of our initiatives, meet regulatory and voluntary disclosures, and enable analysis to make sound, financially prudent recommendations.

We seek an experienced Manager to join the team to support the sustainability strategy and work in Greater China. Reporting to the Sustainability Director of Asia Pacific based in Singapore but working closely with the Greater China Management Team and Sustainability Committee. The Manager will lead decarbonization initiatives, implement sustainable transportation solutions for customers, and engage stakeholders including government partners for cross-industry collaboration. As a key member of the team, you will bring UPS into a brighter, more sustainable future. This is a full-time position based in Shanghai or Beijing.

Key Roles and Responsibilities include:

  • Develop a decarbonization strategy and roadmap for Greater China to meet local regulatory priorities and contribute to UPS’s corporate sustainability goals.

  • Lead the Sustainability Committee that is chaired by UPS Greater China President, in implementing workplans to drive measurable results in fleet electrification, renewable energy, green facilities and sustainable packaging.

  • Support the commercialization of sustainable transportation solutions, including customer emissions reporting and UPS SmartEnergy Solution.

  • Manage the internal process with cross-functional teams to collect environmental data for mandatory reporting to the Post Bureaus.

  • Ensure audit-readiness of UPS’s environmental KPIs, including accurate and complete documentation, for the annual State Post Bureau’s Green Post audit. 

  • Maintain a working knowledge of, and research findings regarding regulatory changes, trends, measurement and technical issues relevant to environmental sustainability.

  • Conduct research and develop analyses to uncover opportunities, mitigate risk, and guide our strategy and decision making for the reduction of GHG emissions.

  • Support engagements with external partners, including customers, governments, suppliers, and non-profits.

  • Support the development of communication materials on UPS’s sustainability progress.

  • Serve as the One UPS sustainability expert to support all UPS business units in Greater China.

Preferred Skills, Experience and Educational Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Engineering, Economics or other related discipline or equivalent.

  • Minimum 6 years of relevant working experience performing in a similar capacity.  

  • Possess knowledge in GHG emissions and accounting principles. 

  • Highly analytical, data-driven and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage for results.

  • Self-starter who can work independently and as part of a high-performing teams.  

  • Ability to work with tight deadlines and lead project teams.

  • Team player who can work cross-functionally to build and maintain positive relationship with internal and external stakeholders.

  • A passion for sustainable development.   

  • Fluent in Chinese (verbal, written, presentation) is required. Fluent in English is highly preferred.
