Job Description:

Risk management is aligned with the corporate vision, mission and strategy, and is embedded within the business management practices of every business segment. Our goal is to blend innovation with practical risk management expertise, ensuring that we not only meet but exceed the evolving needs of our stakeholders in an ever-changing landscape.

This position offers an exciting opportunity for the Associate Risk Analyst to play a critical role on Sun Life’s Corporate Risk Operations (CROps) team. The Associate Risk Analyst will work with Corporate Functional Areas and Information Technology, performing second line oversight functions and independent review of risk programs within these areas.

What will you do?

Risk assessment and monitoring:

  • Regularly evaluate risk exposures and emerging threats across business units within corporate and IT business groups, while considering both internal and external factors that could impact the organization's strategic objectives and operational efficiency.

  • Perform second line independent review and challenge of risk assessment performed by the 1st line of defence (1LOD).

  • Support the maintenance and update of risk register using the integrated risk management system (Archer).

Quality Assurance:

  • Ensure risk assessment process are followed consistently by maintaining detailed records of risk assessments, including findings, and recommendations

Reporting:

  • Support the production of timely and accurate risk reports to senior management and the board

  • Ensure requests through group inbox are tracked for completion and escalate action items when necessary

Coordination:

  • Monitor, follow up and escalate mitigation plans developed to manage risk issues

  • Facilitate communication between first-line business units and corporate risk management teams, ensuring that risk deliverables are received in a timely manner

What do you need to succeed?

  • 0 to 2 years of experience in a risk management or process optimization role

  • Advanced time management and organizational skills

  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral)

  • Excellent presentation skills across a variety of audience, including senior leaders

  • Results oriented team player

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Willingness to learn and embrace change

Preferred Skills:

  • University degree or equivalent in Business, Management, Accounting, Engineering, Mathematics, Actuarial or Computer Science is an asset

  • Experience with Microsoft suite of tools and Data Visualization tools (e.g. Tableau) is an asset

  • Experience in process mapping as well as identification and assessment of processes is an asset

  • Data gathering and analysis

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted.  It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors.  In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.  Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
