Job Description:
Sun Life Global Investments (SLGI) is the trade name of SLGI Asset Management Inc. and the Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada. SLGI Asset Management Inc. is the manager of the Sun Life Mutual Funds, Sun Life Granite Managed Solutions and Sun Life Private Investment Pools. The Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada is the issuer of guaranteed insurance contracts, annuities and insurance contracts containing Sun Life segregated funds.
The role is part of the Governance & Risk Management team which serves as the first line of defense within SLGI to support the governance framework, adherence to compliance and risk policies and effectiveness of controls as it relates to all facets of the Sun Life Global Investments business.
Reporting to the Director , Investment Risk and Oversight, the Senior Manager will lead a team (up to 2) and be responsible for implementation, development and oversight of the investment monitoring program.
What will you do?
Establish and enhance oversight framework to satisfy adherence to regulatory requirements and investment guidelines across SLGI products including mutual Funds and segregated Funds
Improve the SLGI’s investment oversight program to achieve effective oversight and operational efficiency
Oversee daily portfolio trading activities to identify instances of non-compliance with regulatory requirements and investment guidelines
In event of violations, communicate with internal and external Portfolio Managers in a timely manner for remedial actions to bring the portfolio back to compliance per the established timeline
Build out consistent approach to be applied for the monitoring of Investment Guidelines (such as threshold), in partnership with internal counterparties including Product, Multi-Asset Solutions (MAS) team, Investment Operations, Compliance, Legal and Risk.
Conduct quarterly review and annual due diligence of trading desk support services over securities and derivatives
Identify and implement industry best practices when developing new controls process
Continual implementation of robust oversight in support of business growth and global legislation evolvement
Create an environment in which team members thrive for effective and efficient monitoring
Ongoing training and development of team members to sustain the team growth and retain the talent
Continued improvement of oversight documentation including procedures, guidelines, and training materials
What do you need to succeed?
University degree. Post graduate work high desirable MBA, MA, CFA, CA
At least 7 years of Investment Fund experience
In-depth investment product knowledge including equity, fixed income and derivatives.
Working knowledge of Canadian security laws, including and not restricted to NI 81-102
Experience in building and implementing compliance rules in a vendor system (Charles River, Bloomberg, Fidessa)
Experience in investment operations, specifically trade adherence / trade management for mutual fund companies highly desired
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to build and maintain trustful relationships with all levels of the organization
Proven leadership and coaching skills
Demonstrate proactiveness in executing responsibilities.
Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate, influence and network effectively in a team environment
Demonstrate intellectual curiosity by asking questions and taking initiative to research topics.
Excellent execution mindset
Produce output independently and with minimal guidance
Ability to prioritize and work under pressure to meet demanding response times, while paying strict attention to detail
Strong organizational, change management and prioritization skills
Outstanding quantitative and qualitative analytical skills
Proficiency in OMS, EMS, Excel, Tableau
