Job Description:
What will you do?
- Assemble datasets to support various business intelligence, advanced analytics, data exploration, and self-service analytics initiatives within Insurance Solutions
- Design, develop and implement highly scalable data capture and transformation processes.
- Build the data infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and integration of data from disparate data sources using SQL and cloud-based big data technologies
- Update data models to reflect the key business entities within Insurance Solutions
- Identify opportunities for new data acquisition and new uses for existing data resources and assist in design of new solutions and strategies for data capture, processing and consumption across data platforms (relational, dimensional, and NoSQL) that meet the needs of a variety of consumption patterns (visualization, analytics, and machine learning)
- Analyze large quantities of data, draw out business insights from analytical output, and work with team leads to put together business recommendations
- Oversee and govern the expansion of our existing data architecture and the optimization of data query performance via best practices
- Define data retention policy, establish data governance best practice, and create automated anomaly detection services
- Collaborate with IT partners and other analytics teams within Sun Life Canada to build out the data environment and analytics work platforms
What do you need to succeed?
- Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Business, or equivalent
- 3+ years of data experience, including data modeling, extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a variety of sources
- 2+ years of experience writing efficient and complex SQL queries to extract and integrate data from multiple database sources
- 1+ years of experience building data pipelines using python, or similar coding language
- 2+ years of experience with modern data management principles (e.g. data warehousing) with hands-on relational, dimensional modeling, and/or analytic experience (using RDBMS, dimensional, NoSQL data platform technologies, and ETL and data ingestion protocols)
- Verbal and written communication skills; able to work independently and in close collaboration with technical and business teams
What will be nice to have?
- Hands-on experience working on cloud platforms (AWS) with data processing and analytical tools such as AWS SageMaker, AWS Glue, etc.
- Relevant AWS certifications, eg. AWS Certified Data Engineer
- Experience with dbt
- Experience with data visualization tools, specifically Tableau
- Familiarity with the Individual Insurance industry

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
