What’s the role
The Asset Inspector is responsible for the Pressure Equipment Integrity issues in their assigned production units and is responsible for communicating with jurisdiction regarding pressure equipment issues. The job involves aspects of inspection, materials, welding, quality control, quality assurance, equipment design, procedure review, and creating / updating pressure equipment standards and specifications. In addition, the Asset Inspector provides technical support to operations and maintenance on day-to-day plant issues and during plant operational / equipment problems. The Asset Inspector position ensures all pressure equipment is designed, fabricated, operated, inspected, maintained, altered, and repaired in a manner that provides Pressure Equipment Integrity conforming to required regulations and standards. They are an advocate for Pressure Equipment Safety and strive towards zero leaks. Inspectors proactively improve and execute the site Pressure Equipment Integrity management system and work processes.
The Asset Inspector focuses primarily within a 90-day outlook ensuring the PEIM program for their assigned production units is executed and may support medium to long term unit issues and opportunities. A portion of an Asset Inspectors time will be spent on the very short-term supporting emergent unit issues that threaten the business plan.
What you’ll be doing
Act as PEI focal within the assigned production unit to quickly resolve or escalate emergent threats to the business plan
Daily activities of reviewing shift logs and shift plan to identify emergent threats in preparation for the Technical Support Huddle
Plan, coordinate, and execute integrity inspections, assessments, recommendations, and monitoring requirements including maintaining unit KPIs
Responsible for the implementation of the PEIM program for the assigned production unit, including creation of annual Inspection scopes and preparation of Inspection plans
Maintenance of the Inspection database system, IMS
Assessment, analysis, optimization, and documentation of Inspection results
Supporting RBI assessments
Responsible for creation of piping and equipment repair plans (CAIRs) and their adherence to API, ASME, and jurisdictional requirements
Review and approval of construction and repair ITPs
Responsible for the placement, monitoring, and RBI assessment of TMLs (equipment and piping) while optimizing to assure integrity and efficiency
Troubleshoot failures and provide recommendations for repair / replacement based on materials failure analysis and causal analysis
Perform maintenance and integrity quality assurance duties on assigned assets
Provide direction and monitor the progression of NDE in the assigned production unit, ensuring the personnel safety of NDE contractors working in the unit
Input to annual budget process for integrity/inspection issues
May be required to fill a reserve worker role
What you bring
Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
Technology diploma or engineering degree preferred, or equivalent level of industry experience
7+ years of professional experience at petrochemical or other industrial sites
API 510 or 570 including ABSA I(B)PV are preferred
API 653 is considered an asset
Solid working knowledge of applicable piping, pressure vessels, storage tanks and heat exchangers industry standards (ASME Pressure Vessel Code, API, ASTM, WRC, etc.)
Knowledge in the application of RBI is an asset
Knowledge in NDE techniques is an asset
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to decipher ambiguous data and articulate the meaning
Strong coaching and mentoring abilities to develop junior team members
Consistently achieves results by setting challenging targets, organizing work effectively and overcoming obstacles
Fluent with MS Office suite of software
