Prudential Financial Inc.’s (PFI’s) International Insurance division (PII), based in the United States, is seeking an experience corporate generalist with experience in the wellness industry to serve as the first dedicated lawyer to its Wellness business, known as Fully, to be based in São Paulo, Brazil.
Fully is a subsidiary of Prudential Insurance International, and it is a B2B2C wellness platform that helps companies to increase customer engagement and life-time value. We've created an ecosystem that integrates physical, mental, and financial well-being into a unique experience, and rewards the health and well-being of the customer. We use the data generated on the platform to personalize the journey and strengthen engagement, resulting in higher NPS, lower churn, and more business opportunities.
This role is a member of Prudential International Insurance’s Emerging Markets legal team reporting to both the Emerging Markets Regional Chief Legal Officer and the President of the Fully business.
Responsibilities Include:
- Contributing actively as a member of the Fully business’s senior management, including through participation in relevant committees.
- The obtaining and maintenance of required regulatory permissions to conduct the business.
- The tracking of and response to changes in laws and regulations applicable to the wellness industry and keeping up to date on industry standards.
- Drafting and reviewing contracts with suppliers and strategic partners, including providing
- legal advice concerning compliance with contractual obligations and wellness industry best practices.
- Contributing to strategic initiatives.
- Working with Prudential’s IP and technology legal teams to provide guidance about Fully’s IP to the business and help the business to define standards to mitigate product liability risks.
- Provide training to employees on basic legal requirements and processes, such as Vendor Governance.
- Working with subject matter experts, advise on HR matters, employee relations, and labor laws and review the development of employee policies prepared by HR and others.
- Oversee litigation and arbitration matters, working with internal subject matter experts and external counsel to resolve disputes with customers, employees, or vendors.
- Identify and mitigate legal risks, by providing guidance to the business, compliance and risk team members who are charged with development of risk management strategies and processes for the business.
- Provide legal guidance to the business team leads and compliance leads who manage company policies (e.g., privacy, returns, refunds).
- Overseeing the selection and management of Outside Counsel and the related legal spend.
Your Desired Qualifications:
- Fluency in written and spoken English and Portuguese. Spanish language capability is a plus.
- Law degree.
- Corporate generalist with at least 5-8 years of experience at a top law firm or in-house team.
- Flexibility and willingness to adapt to changing needs of the organization as well as the ability to balance multiple projects simultaneously.
- Courage and confidence to speak up, challenge, and advocate for a point of view.
- Superior analytical skills and the ability to write and communicate clearly and simply in providing focused, technically sound, and practical legal solutions.
- Strong work ethic, with an ability to work independently, collaboratively, and reliably under tight timeframes and in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work cross functionally with various levels of the Fully and PII organization.
- Adept at tailoring message appropriately to audience.
- Demonstrates a learning mindset and who is able to quickly develop a strong understanding of business operations and strategy.
- Working knowledge of wellness industry regulations and laws is a plus.
- Familiarity with data privacy laws (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) is a plus.
- Strong preference given to candidates with international experience, through an LLM, secondment, or experience in the legal department of a global enterprise.
