As a member of the Global Technology Services (GTS) division, you will contribute to all aspects of the technology products and services we deliver, from technical strategy and design to coding to deployment to operation. Our GTS products and services are leveraged across all Business Unit Platforms within the Bank to deliver industry-leading software including: CommBank App, Netbank, CommSee, CommSec, CommBiz and http://Commbank.com.au.

This position will pre-dominantly be based at Commonwealth Bank's state of the art Eveleigh offices. Although we also provide flexible working conditions and provide the opportunity to work remotely or in a hybrid environment.

As a Chapter Lead, you will be focused on the management and development of skills, driving consistency in our tooling, frameworks and methodologies within the chapter. You will maintain your own hands-on experience by delivering work as a squad member.

In this role, you will foster a positive people experience and equip Chapter Members with the skills, resources, and support they need to thrive. Your leadership will build a skilled and engaged chapter that delivers quality outcomes through effective chapter performance.

To be successful in this role, you will cultivate strong, collaborative relationships with Chapter Members, Chapter Area Leads, Product Owners and Crew Leads to ensure alignment on strategic goals.

As a Chapter Lead, your primary responsibilities include:

  • Active participation in squad activities: Contribute to the squad success by actively participating in daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives, ensuring effective collaboration and communication among team members

  • Coaching and development of chapter members: Provide guidance and mentorship to enhance the skills and professional growth of squad members within the chapter

  • Provide input into the strategic workforce plan: Identify the skills and capabilities needed within the chapter and implement strategies to attract and retain talent

  • Promoting continuous learning and development: Ensure the growth of chapter members through targeted training programs, mentorship, and personalized development plans

  • Standardizing tools and methodologies: Implement standard ways of working, standard operating procedures and identify opportunities for continuous improvement

  • Fostering an inclusive work environment: Create a positive and supportive work environment where all chapter members feel valued and respected

  • People Management and Development: Conducting cyclical people process with chapter members including annual performance and remuneration reviews

To thrive in this role, you will need to demonstrate these essential competencies:

  • Advanced level in matrix management and delivering effective feedback, while demonstrating flexibility and fostering strong collaboration across teams

  • Advanced level in human-centered perspective by understanding and addressing diverse stakeholder needs, while skilfully persuading and influencing others

  • Sound level decision-making and critical thinking abilities, maintaining high situational awareness to drive both tactical and strategic planning objectives

  • Sound level risk management to effectively identify, assess, and mitigate risks

  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of the leadership principles

In addition to the required competencies, these would be advantageous:

  • Experience in relevant industry and technical domain, demonstrating a deep understanding of industry trends, challenges and best practices

  • Success of leading teams through change with confidence, applying leadership principles to maintain team engagement and productivity

  • Domain specific technical certification or education, enhancing credibility and demonstrating commitment to maintaining up-to-date expertise
