Our Actuaries are on the front lines, quantifying risk, pricing insurance and reserving losses for AIG’s major insurance operating companies, globally. We collaborate with Finance, Claims, Operations, Marketing and Risk Management, among other functions. As an AIG actuary, you will be challenged and encouraged to reach your greatest potential to help improve how we predict, manage, and mitigate risk.

How you will create an impact

The AIG Actuarial team is made up of Reserving and Pricing Actuaries. Reserving Actuaries quantify reserving losses for AIG’s major regulated and rated insurance operating companies. Portfolio Analytics and Pricing Actuaries support AIG’s businesses and are responsible for technical pricing, product development analytics and performance measurement in collaboration with Underwriters, Distribution, Operations and Financial Management.

The successful candidate will be supporting the APAC Package and Technical Modelling Lead Actuary. The candidate will be a member of the wider APAC actuarial team and may be tasked with providing actuarial advice to the business functions including profit centres, underwriting, finance, and risk management.

Key accountabilities will include but not limited to:

  • Building and continual improvement of portfolio monitoring and analytics frameworks
  • Develop and implement best practice pricing models, including customer behaviours (conversion/retention/cancellation), claims, and pricing scenarios
  • Support continual refinement of rating models using advanced analytics and predictive modelling techniques on internal and external data
  • Assist with detailed profitability studies by segment, aligned with local and regional product tower requirements, to support strategy and risk appetite.
  • Assist in supporting strategic portfolio reviews and deep dive analyses of required business segments
  • Assist in other ad-hoc analyses as required.
  • Drive a culture that promotes engagement and collaboration.
  • Manage and mentor junior resources

What you’ll need to succeed

  • Bachelor degrees in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or other quantitative degrees.
  • Significant experience in pricing and modelling projects across design, build, and evaluation of pricing models such as GLM and GBM techniques; Experience with Radar is advantageous
  • Demonstrated evidence of technical proficiency with Python/R, and SQL
  • Demonstrated problem solving and ability to synthesize complex issues into clear and actionable advice for non-technical audiences to support business problems
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, working as part of a team, as well as taking responsibility for individual contribution.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and prioritise own work.
  • Ability to forge relationships with other areas of the business.
  • Professional behaviour with high level of integrity.
  • Effective project & time management and strong communication skills.
  • Strong knowledge of Australian general insurance market and SME products in particular, an advantage
