Institutional Banking and Markets (IB&M) is responsible for managing the Group’s relationships with major corporate and government clients and institutional investors, and provides a full range of capital raising, transactional and risk management products and services. Within IB&M technology our mission is to combine the next generation of technology, with leading banking and markets capabilities to help our clients succeed. We’re building empowered and autonomous engineering teams that are product focused and responsible for end-end delivery.

The position represents a key senior engineering role as the leader of a team charged with building and running the bank’s FX Settlement system as well as delivering complex, cloud-based integration assets in the Global Markets domain. You’ll play an important role in steering the organisation by providing expert advice relating to technology, solution design and architecture, people leadership and hiring. You will bring a perfect blend of people management and technical expertise and will be responsible for shaping the evolution of the technical squad by contributing to the technology strategy, drafting quarterly crew memos, prioritising backlog, defining delivery roadmaps, and deciding which problems to invest in solving.

• Have worked with a wide group of enablers, including user experience designers, customer operations, accessibility advocates and product owners.

Tech Skills 

We use a broad range of tools, languages, and frameworks. We don’t expect you to know them all but experience or exposure with some of these will set you up for success in this team:

• Strong hands-on experience with any of the technologies like Python, Bash, Perl, Shell scripting Java, Kafka, React.js/Next.js

• Sound knowledge of large-scale distributed systems, Microservices, and Rest API Integration

• Cloud - AWS (preferred) or Azure

• CI/CD pipeline - GitHub Actions, TeamCity, Octopus

• Data & Analytical - Advanced SQL skills

• Deep understanding of the value that AI can bring to engineering productivity

• Highly desirable: Performance tuning of SQL, SSL standard for secure encrypted communications
