Institutional Banking and Markets (IB&M) is responsible for managing the Group’s relationships with major corporate and government clients and institutional investors, and provides a full range of capital raising, transactional and risk management products and services.

The Business Oversight team is responsible for the Line 1 Operational Risk Management across Commodities, Trade and Carbon (CTC) including: implementation of the Operational Risk Framework, control monitoring and reporting, trade surveillance, advising and challenging on business risk issues.

This function supports the CTC business in the alignment of our business activities management of risks to achieve with fair outcomes for our clients and to protect market integrity, to meet regulatory requirements and protect our people.

Do work that matters:

The Associate Director CTC Risk Oversight will be a trusted advisor and coach for operational risk related matters and be responsible for facilitating solutions and providing tools that assist with the management of operational risk across CTC with a primary focus on Global Trade Finance.

You will leverage your detailed knowledge of the end to end finance markets environment to coach & advise the Business on effective application of the Operational Risk Management Framework (ORMF). Knowledge of trade finance products would be beneficial.

A key responsibility for this role includes:

• Support the design and implement / support the business to design and implement controls and develop process maps to enable better risk and compliance outcomes, providing guidance and advice to senior leaders on their application.
• Ensure risks are profiled and captured in the Business Profile and updating if appropriate when risk trigger events occur.
• Drive continuous improvement of the business control environment by using data to generate insights and recommend courses of action.
• Provide stakeholders with insights and suggested actions with regard to Operational Risk and control profiles, issues, incidents and other matters.
• Improve awareness and understanding for CTC on all requirements of the ORMF and on roles, responsibilities and accountabilities under an effective three lines of defence operating model.
• Develop an understanding of key risks associated with the Trade Finance businesses and how Trade Finance controls processes and procedures help to minimise or mitigate the impact of these risks.

We're interested in hearing from people who have:

• Strong experience working in an Operational Risk and/operations role within IB&M
• Influencing and consulting skills, the ability to build relationships with stakeholders at all levels of Global Markets
• Demonstrates strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data, identify trends, and provide actionable insights to drive risk decision-making
• An understanding of Trade Finance processes from end to end developed from either working in Risk or Trading role or working in a direct support area of Trade Finance such as Operations
• Controls design experience
