What’s the role
As Safety & Environment (S&E) Advisor, you will be integrating Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) delivery into the asset's operation and improvement plans. You’ll thrive on providing challenge, fit-for-purpose solutions, insights, learnings, intervening where required, simplifying ways of working and directly supporting operations.
You will provide a strong on-site presence at the point of risk to achieve and to deliver HSSE goals, assurance activities and initiatives. You will embed environmental compliance requirements to front-line activities while focusing on protecting and enhancing the natural environment and contributing towards Shell’s net-zero emissions and social license to operate. You will contribute and foster consistency across the asset, embed assist and assure principles, contribute and participate in risk management practices and assist with contractor HSSE management.
What you’ll be doing
Your role will include:
Championing and role modelling S&E leadership to strengthen and maintain a positive and disciplined culture in QGC operations, which has evident line practice and accountability.
Providing coaching to the S&E team for the effective implementation of HSSE plans, the environmental management system, emergency systems, incident management and support in the field.
Support compliance with local State standards and requirements, particularly those associated with the P&G, WHS and DETSI regulatory bodies.
Partnering with and coaching staff and contractors to enhance S&E culture, embracing learner mindset, psychological safety and human and organizational performance principles.
Driving engagement and advocacy with a wide range of stakeholders to share best practices and address issues in a risk-based manner.
Establish strong business partnerships: Assist partnerships with other QGC departments and contractors to provide and ensure specialist safety and environmental advice delivers compliance and performance in line with asset goals.
What you bring

A bachelors, graduate diploma or master's degree in safety, environmental science, engineering or a related discipline.
Substantial project and/or operational experience in the Australian regulatory environment, ideally including history with WHS, DESI and RSHQ.
Working knowledge of state and federal safety and environmental legislation and polices.
Experience in contractor HSSE management, assurance and incident investigation & learning
Ability to apply both technical and human and organizational performance concepts to HSSE activities and deliverables.
Deep commitment to Goal Zero and personal accountability.
Significant HSSE experience working with operational teams to positively impact S&E culture.
A proven track record in coaching and motivating personnel; managing competing demands of multiple stakeholders and delivering/managing effective behavioural/cultural change programs.
High levels of self-motivation to work through unique complex problems and find working solutions, develop and deliver specific programs.
Advanced interpersonal and presentation skills and a willingness to proactively connect stakeholders across the asset.
Strong people and leadership skills, communication and influencing with ability to build trust from the workforce level to senior management, contractors and external stakeholders.
The courage to share views, insights, uncomfortable truths whilst accepting and supporting decisions made.
Relentless drive for simplification and improvement.
