Business Banking (BB) serves the banking needs of Australian businesses. As part of the BB CCO Line 1 Risk team, you will support Small Business Banking (SBB) and the distribution of Business Banking and Retail Banking products.

The SBB Line 1 Risk and Controls team is responsible for providing end to end risk and control advisory and delivery service. You will be supporting four State General Managers and their teams in executing their responsibility to safely distribute our products and meet our customer needs. This includes effectively identifying, understanding and managing risks to ensure the business is operating within BB risk appetite.

Do work that matters:

As a Senior Manager Risk and Control Line 1, you will lead a small team of two managers and be responsible for supporting the SBB distribution team with end-to-end management of risks and compliance obligations, including identification and assessment of risks and compliance obligations applicable to the business profile, development and assessment of controls, as well as management of issues and incidents. You will be a trusted advisor for all risk and compliance matters, which include providing advice to the SBB teams and ensure adherence to regulatory and policy requirements.

On any given day you will:

  • Business Profile Management: ensuring risks and obligations are identified, captured in the Business Profile and assessed in accordance with the Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) Standard and Procedure and the Obligations Management Standard (OMS).

  • Governance and Reporting: providing risk and compliance reporting to support various committees and forums for SBB and select BB forums, including the preparation of the bi-monthly pack, agenda and actions for the SBB NFRC.

  • Controls: supporting the team with development and assessment of controls to mitigate identified risks, including risks that arise from changes to systems, processes and operations.

  • Issue and Incident Management: overseeing and providing guidance to the distribution teams with regards to issues and incident management, including conducting root cause analysis, identifying and implementing control uplift, as well as completion of remedial actions.

  • Risk Culture: drive a proactive risk culture through collaboration with our business partners and Line 2 teams to determine the optimal course of action of risk and change matters.

  • Data quality: ensure data quality in risk management system (RiskInSite) to support senior business leaders in effective governance, oversight and management of operational risks.

We are interested in people who have:

  • Leadership skills: proven leadership and coaching skills to develop a high-performing team of risk and control professionals.

  • Risk and Compliance mindset: sound to advance knowledge and experience in Operational Risk and Compliance Management Frameworks; ability to analyse/identify risks and recommend appropriate actions; knowledge of the regulatory environment would be beneficial; some experience in leveraging AI technologies to enhance efficiency and improve risk management outcomes is advantageous.

  • Effective stakeholder management skills: ability to build relationships and partner with the business to understand risk as an enabler for growth and success.

  • Business Acumen: understanding of the business and its strategic priorities; experience in commercial lending is advantageous.

  • Strong communication skills: ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders across different teams and different levels of seniority.
