Job Summary

The Associate Director Risk & Control is responsible for supporting country head in managing end to end process risks for Corporate & Investment Banking, Coverage in the country, for the processes owned by the Coverage COO in the Single Process Universe. The Associate Director is responsible for supporting and executing the first line of defence and ensures effective implementation of Operational Risk Framework (under the Enterprise Risk Management Framework), process controls and governance within the country

Key Responsibilities  

  • Support Country / Cluster Heads for maintaining an awareness of the wider business, economic and market environment in the country / countries which the Group operates.
  • Responsible for ensuring adherence to specified BAU operational risk deadlines, along with the consistent execution of CST / KCI for relevant processes in the country.
  • Responsible for being a key escalation recipient for the business for all operational risk related incidents and queries that arise in the country.
  • Responsible for coordinating with stakeholders in the country / countries, increase transparency and share key developments, learnings and best practices.
  • Responsible for regular dialogue with CIB Coverage and country compliance teams to ensure that Country Teams are informed of product changes, regulatory changes, new policies, compliance reviews and audits.
  • Support Regional/ Country / Cluster Heads in effective running of Country CIB Coverage Business Risk Forum (BRF).
  • Support Country / Cluster Head in ensuring adequate governance and oversight of operational risk in the country, through the escalation and appropriate resolution of risk exposures to the Country Non-Financial Risk Committee (CNFRC) and Group Banking Non-Financial Risk Committee (NFRC) as required.
  • Responsible for escalation of issues, blockages, challenges and trends to the Regional/Country / Cluster Head, Risk & Control and Country business head (s), as required.
  • Take personal responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics, including regulatory and business conduct, across the business in the region. This includes understanding and ensuring compliance with, in letter and spirit, all applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and the Group Code of Conduct.
  • Support the first line operational risk team within the Country  to achieve the outcomes set out in the Bank’s Conduct Principles: [Fair Outcomes for Clients; Effective Financial Markets; Financial Crime Compliance; The Right Environment.]

Qualifications

Key Requirements for the role:

  • Relevant business experience in operations, business analysis or project management.
  • Clear understanding of the Bank’s Operational Risk Framework or equivalent experience gained in other organisations.
  • Demonstrated history of applying sound judgement with critical thinking skills and courage necessary to perform a control role and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Problem solving skills with ability to influence across all levels of business.
  • Education - Academic or Professional Education/Qualifications from a recognised university.
  • Certifications - Any risk related qualification will be added advantage 
  • Languages - English  & Arabic
